Tear is an intimate close-up of a human face, not in full, but in suggestion. The viewer sees a cheek, the soft curve of a nose, the edge of a mouth. A single painted tear glides down the skin, delicate and deliberate. But beyond the image, the physical surface of the painting (a wooden panel) is cracked, ruptured, visibly broken.
This rupture isn’t hidden; it’s central. The damage becomes part of the work’s meaning, blurring the line between image and object, emotion and material. It asks: where does pain live: on the face, or beneath it?
